The BBC were forced to issue a grovelling online apology to Gary Neville after the England coach took to twitter to complain about a headline.

Sky Sports presenter Neville felt the broadcaster’s headline Rooney needs to improve – Neville was ‘extremely misleading and taken out of context’, despite telling BBC Radio 5 Live: “We need to see Wayne Rooney improve and he needs to see himself improve.”

Nonetheless, Stuart Rowson, editor of the BBC Sports website, apologised to the former Manchester United star on twitter, claiming the mistake was ‘not our style’. It now reads: Rooney can still improve – Neville.
