Anfield side linked with hugely unlikely Stamford Bridge raid.
Reports from Italy suggest that Liverpool are among sides interested in signing Chelsea full-back Ashley Cole.
Any move from the Anfield side to lure the soon to be out of contract England international would be bordering on the deluded and one has to wonder if the report from this source can be considered as based in any form of reality.
Brendan Rodgers does of course have linked with Chelsea, having worked as both reserve and youth team manager at the West London club, however that does not make it likely that Ashley Cole would entertain the idea of a move to the struggling Merseyside club.
Liverpool could well be interested in bringing in a left-back to more adequately fill a role that is currently being covered by former Chelsea man Glen Johnson, who is more commonly associated with the right-back role. Indeed the England man may have to revert back to that flank following the long term injury suffered by youngster Martin Kelly.
Chelsea are seemingly unwilling to break their own contract policy on players over the age of 30 and are therefore only willing to hand Ashley Cole, and indeed team-mate Frank Lampard, a one year extension on the deal’s that are due to end this summer.
The 31 year old former Arsenal man is therefore looking at his options and given that is apparent interest from both PSG and Real Madrid, two sides managed by former Chelsea boss’s, any chance of a move to Liverpool would be slim to none.
