Check-In to Sunderland v Newcastle United

Newcastle United are reportedly considering registering their interest in Aston Villa striker as Alan Pardew prepares for the possible replacements for Senegal international Demba Ba.

The Magpies marksman’s future at the club has been called into question after much speculation about his desire to occupy a more central striking role, this in turn led to Newcastle United boss Pardew reiterating that the 27 year old’s £7.5m release clause was still in operation, leading many to suggest that there has been a falling out between the club and player.

Pardew knows Bent well from his days in charge of Charlton Athletic and the England international has also been linked with an exit due to an apparent frosty relationship with new Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert, an issue the Scot has been keen to deny.

Bent has been a consistent Premier League marksman for a number of years now, scoring regularly for Charlton Athletic, Tottenham, Sunderland and Aston Villa and the 28 year old forward may well be tempted by the chance of a move to Newcastle United, especially given the poor season the Villa Park side had last term and their shaky start to the current camapign.

Darren Bent has netted 20 goals in 42 starts for the Midlands club since his £18m move from the Stadium of Light back in January 2011.
