Etihad Stadium side eye up Nou Camp star.
Italian source CalcioMercato believes that Man City boss Roberto Mancini has set his sights on Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
There’s has been a great deal of speculation about the former Arsenal skipper’s apparent unhappiness of not being guaranteed a first team spot under new boss Tito Vilanova, speculation that seems to be without foundation given that the 25 year old hasn’t missed a La Liga or Champions League match this term.
Mancini may feel his side did not invest heavily enough in new talent over the summer, indeed whilst the signing of the likes of Javi Garcia, Scott Sinclair and Jack Rodwell would be considered the fruits of a busy transfer window by Man City standard’s this is fairly tame.
Whilst Man City do have a number of midfield options they do perhaps lack strength in depth when it comes to players who can drive the play forward. Yaya Toure is usually the ‘go-to-guy’ for this purpose but Mancini will have to do without the Ivory Coast international for the best part of two months as he takes part in the African Nations Cup.
Toure’s agent has also talked up the possibility of an exit for his client, this may have some part to play in the link with Cesc Fabregas.
