Old Trafford side target French international.
Man United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly considering registering his interest in AC Milan midfielder Mathieu Flamini and could make an exploratory offer for the French international in January.
The former Arsenal man was seemingly set to leave the San Siro in the summer when his contract came to and end but the 28 year old opted to sign a new one year deal in the hope that he could force his way into Massimiliano Allegri’s first team plans but this has not proven to be the case.
Therefore the determined midfielder is likely to be open to a potential move back to the Premier League and would certainly be tempted by a move to Old Trafford where he could add some much needed steel to Sir Alex Ferguson’s squad.
Flamini has made just one Serie A appearance this season and has generally struggled to retain a spot in the AC Milan first team for much of his four and half years at the club.
Rossoneri owner Silvio Berlusconi is in the middle of a cost cutting process that saw star pair Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic sold to PSG so any decent offer made for the Flamini is sure to be considered as otherwise the club will lose the player on a free transfer in the summer.
Though Ferguson has adopted a more youthful approach to his transfer policy in recent years he is seemingly willing to make exceptions if he feels the need to bring in an established performer, as evidenced by his move to sign Robin Van Persie.
The Scot has seen his Man United midfield sliced open on a fair few occasions, most notably by Tottenham earlier this month, and Ferguson is looking to bring in a defensive minded player to help stem the opposition’s advances. Paul Scholes is clearly in the latter stages of his career and Micheal Carrick is not renowned for his tackling ability.
Darren Fletcher is feeling his way back from illness and Sir Alex Ferguson appears to be running out of patience with Brazilian Anderson, who has delivered one too many average performances, therefore a move for a player of Flamini’s experience and ability has tempted the Man United boss into considering a bid when the transfer window reopens.
