Clearly Liverpool have been busy scouting Jang Hyun-Soo, or have been advised of the youngster’s ability. The FC Tokyo defender has made just six senior appearances for the J-League side but was originally expected to be part of South Korea’s 2012 Olympic squad before he was struck with an injury.
Brendan Rodgers may feel the need to strengthen his defensive options but in all likelihood any interst in Hyun-Soo is with an eye to the long term plans the Merseyside club may have.
The Liverpool boss has a remit to build for the future and has brought in youthful additions accordingly, with the likes of Joe Allen and Fabio Borini being the club’s big summer signings.
Rodgers has also been forced by a lack of genuine strength in depth to use youngsters perhaps far earlier than he had planned but has seen the likes of Raheem Sterling, Suso and Andre Wisdom thrive in the first team.
