Anfield side continue to track Parkhead striker.
Speculation is growing over Liverpool’s reported interest in Celtic striker Gary Hooper with Liverpool-Kop claiming that the Anfield side are favourites to capture the Parkhead goal machine.
The 24 year old has been struck in stalled contract talks with the Glasgow side for months now and there is good chance that the former Scunthorpe United man would be tempted by a move to the Premier League side.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has made it clear he will not tolerate another transfer-window disaster in January.
Rodgers was left fuming when Charlie Adam, Jay Spearing and Andy Carroll were allowed to leave Anfield in August without replacements being signed.
A broken foot for Fabio Borini has left Luis Suarez as the Liverpool manager’s only fit senior striker, and Rodgers says he is looking forward to being busy in January with Celtic striker Gary Hooper and Theo Walcott, of Arsenal, reported targets.

Brendan Rodgers has thus far not been handed anything like the transfer funds his predecessor Kenny Dalglish enjoyed, and wasted, so any hope of landing either or both of the targets named by this source will depend greatly on how willing Liverpool’s American owners are to once again fork out to improve the Anfield squad.
24 year old former Scunthorpe United man Hooper has been a big hit since his move to Parkhead two years ago and Bhoys boss Neil Lennon is keen to tie the marksman to a new long term contract but may struggle to do so if a bid from the Anfield side is forthcoming.
Hooper netted 22 goals in his first season in Scotland and fired in 29 last term to help Celtic to an SPL title and he is a player Lennon will fight to keep hold of. There has been talk of a potential England call-up for the Harlow born striker and clearly a high-profile move South of the Border would help in pursuit of international recognition.
If indeed Gary Hooper is refusing to sign a new deal it may well be with a view to attracting interest in his services from prospective Premier League sides interested in his services.
