Old Trafford side ready to express interest in Emirates Stadium star.
Man United are reportedly considering a move to sign Arsenal winger Theo Walcott. Sir Alex Ferguson is seemingly open to the possibility of picking up the Emirates Stadium wide-man as a possible replacement for Old Trafford wide-man Nani.
23 year old Gunners attacker Walcott has been frozen out of the Arsenal first team set-up over his refusal to put pen to paper on a new contract and is likely to leave the North London club either in the January transfer window or next summer when he can be signed on a free transfer.
Arsene Wenger has handed the England international just one Premier League start this term and the decision to force the former Southampton man out of the Arsenal starting eleven is seemingly not a reflection on his footballing ability, indeed in recent weeks the young forward has made a real impact coming off the bench to help his side to victories in a number of recent fixtures.
Walcott has scored four goals this season despite making just two starts and is a player attracting the interest of a number of Premier League sides and now Man United are monitoring the situation intently.
Ferguson appears happy to see Portuguese international winger Nani leave the club after losing patience with the Man United winger over his protracted contract talks and excessive wage demands. This seems a decision made easier for the Scot given the average form the 25 year old has displayed in recent months.
Though the Man United boss has a number of wide attacking options he has concerns about the long term fitness of both Ashley Young and Luis Antonio Valencia, both of whom have spent lengthy periods out of the side with injuries in recent seasons, indeed former Aston Villa man Young only made a return to the first team picture against Chelsea after two months out.
Walcott has cut an inconsistent figure during much of his time at Arsenal but still has a great deal of talent and Ferguson may feel that the chance to sign a player of his quality ‘on the cheap’ in January or on a free transfer next summer is just too good an opportunity to pass-up.
Theo Walcott has made a total of 230 appearances for Arsenal since he moved to the club, 87 of which coming from the bench, scoring 46 goals in the process.
