De Gea determined to stay at United and fight for his place in the team.
David de Gea has committed his future to Manchester United amid reports linking him with a return to Spain.
A report in the Daily Mail last week suggested that Real Madrid were lining-up the 22-year-old as the long-term replacement for Iker Casillas and were ready to tempt the homesick Spaniard back to his homeland.
De Gea has been in and out of the United team this season, with Ander Lindergaard ofted preferred between the sticks in the Premier League.
But the former Atletico Madrid man made a number of fine saves as the Red Devils edged out Chelsea 3-2 in Sunday’s pulsating top of the table clash, suggested De Gea has put his early wobbles at Old Trafford behind him.
“I am happy at United and not thinking about a return to Spain,” De Gea is quoted as saying by ESPN. “I’ve accepted the challenge to learn and improve as a professional.”
Despite the challenge from Lindegaard, De Gea is focussed on fighting for his place in the United team.
“Fighting for my place gives me a bigger incentive to play well,” De Gea added.
