Emirates Stadium and White Hart Lane sides both keen on in-form San Siro attacker.
Arsenal and Tottenham are thought to be battling to sign AC Milan star Stephan El Shaarawy this January, as both look to make a renewed fight for the UEFA Champions League places.
20 year old AC Milan attacker Stephan El Shaarawy has come of age this term. Prior to this season the Italian Under 21 international had appeared very much style over substance, guilty of trying the extravagant and often accused of being greedy and unwilling to play in team-mates, preferring to try his luck from distance.
This season everything has clicked for the youngster, which is all the more surprising given just how bad a season the Rossoneri are having. Massimiliano Allegri’s side sit in ninth spot, some 14 points off top having played a game more than all those above them. Five defeats in their opening ten matches have already more or less ended their title hopes and it’s not even November.
However El Shaarawy is the top scorer in Serie A with seven goals from in ten matches, having managed just two goals all season last term.
Allegri has opted to play the starlet in a more orthodox striking role this season, filling the spot vacated by PSG bound Zlatan Ibrahimovic and El Shaarawy has thrived.
Arsenal certainly need a new attacking option or two, with Arsene Wenger seemingly only have one real out and out striker in his squad, Olivier Giroud, with Lukas Podolski and Gervinho working in wide roles. Therefore their interest in the AC Milan makes a great deal of sense and their local rivals are apparently low on striking options.
Andre Villas-Boas has opted exclusively to use Jermaine Defoe as his solo striker, leaving Emmanuel Adebayor warming the bench wondering why Tottenham bothered to make his temporary move to White Hart Lane a permanent one.
The former Blues boss is known for his willingness to trust to youth and whereas the purchase of Togo international Adebayor may well have been a deal that pre-dates his arrival, his interest in the AC Milan youngster may well be a reflection of the kind of player he would like to see spearheading the Spurs attack.
