Finnish teenager hopes to revive Anfield interest.
HJC Helsinki striker Joel Pohjanpalo has revealed his ongoing dream of being a Liverpool player – just a couple of months after turning down the chance to join the Anfield club.
Pohjanpalo, 18, undertook a one-week trial at Liverpool FC in March 2012 and was reportedly offered a three-year contract in August – but rejected it on the basis that the Reds could not even guarantee him reserve team football.
Choosing instead to continue his development in Finland with HJK Helsinski – who won their fourth straight domestic title on Saturday – young Joel has seemingly had a rethink, the fickle lad, and is again pondering a move to the Premier League.
He revealed in a local TV interview: “I don’t know where I’ll be playing next season, but it’s my dream to play for Liverpool FC one day.”

Joel Pohjanpalo may well regret turning down the offer of a move to Anfield and is now looking to re-ignite the club’s interest in his services. It does seem odd that the Finnish Under 21 international would decide to not agree to a Liverpool move, even if such a deal would have initially meant forcing his way through the club’s reserve team to earn his chance in the first team.
The decision to turn down a three year Liverpool contract is all the more bizarre when you consider how threadbare Brendan Rodgers striking options are.
The Northern Irish boss only has Luis Suarez and Fabio Borini to call upon in terms of recognised senior strikers and the Italian is out for a long spell with a broken foot. Youngster Adam Morgan is no doubt chomping at the bit to get his chance to impress in much the same way Raheem Sterling and Suso have swum magnificently after being thrown in at the deep end.
Pohjanpalo netted 19 goals in all competitions last term and may well look to emulate fellow Finns Jari Litmanen and Sami Hyypia who both represented the Merseyside club in the recent past.
