Stamford Bridge side battle Bundesliga champions for young attacker.
Borussia Dortmund want to scupper Chelsea’s long-standing plans to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s Andre Schurrle.
Chelsea failed with a £20m bid for the Germany international in the summer but are expected to come in for him again.
Leverkusen flat out refused to enter into any negotiations with Chelsea regarding their star player but that has not dissuaded Roberto Di Matteo.
The Italian still wants his man but the emergence of Dortmund in the running has given him cause for concern.
Chelsea’s interest in Andre Schurrle is well known and it will take a bid in excess of the £20m that failed over the summer in order for Roberto Di Matteo to secure the highly rated German international.
Interest from Borussia Dortmund may also appeal to the Bayer Leverkusen man but one would imagine the West London side would be able to offer the 21 year old a heftier pay packet.
Arguably Schurrle would find it easier to secure regular first team football at Stamford Bridge than at the Westfalenstadion, where Robert Lewndowski is Jurgen Klopp’s first choice striker.
Though the youngster can play in a number of attacking roles one would imagine that Chelsea are looking to beef up their striking options as currently they rely heavily on Fernando Torres, who has only recently started to justify the £50m spent on the former Liverpool man.
