Emirates Stadium side keen on experienced Brazilian international.
Arsenal are set to move for Paris Saint-Germain winger Nene in January to give them additional options in the forward positions.
According to Brazilian football website Sambafoot, the PSG star is available on a free transfer in January, and Arsene Wenger is sure to be interested in such a bargain.
Still, there are a number of clubs looking into the possibility of signing Nene, with Santos the first to go public with their interest.
“We’re not negotiating with Nene [yet],” said Odilio Rodrigues, Santos vice president.
“We know he’s a good player, which will be available. He informed us of his situation.”
Nene is a hugely experienced intelligent flair player who has seen his big spending PSG side bring in player after star player, effectively rendering his place at the Parc des Princes side every more obsolete.
The likes of Javier Pastore, Jeremy Menez and Ezequiel Lavezzi all appear to have pushed their way ahead of the Brazilian in Carlo Ancelotti’s first team set-up.
The former Monaco man notched up 20 goals in his first season at PSG, then 27 last term as his side narrowly lost the title chase to Montpellier. However this season Nene has spent much of the time warming the bench and appears to be heading for the exit.
Though clearly Arsene Wenger is not known for bringing players over the age of 30 he may feel that the stylish wide-man could be a perfect stop gap solution given that young talents like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Ryo Miyaichi are coming through the ranks.
And if the North London club can pick up the 31 year old goal-scoring wide-man on a free transfer, or even a nominal fee, it could prove an inspired bit of business by Arsene Wenger.
