Stamford Bridge side keen on beefing up attacking options linked with strikers of varying degrees of ability.
Alexandre Pato eyed by Chelsea as hunt for new striker continues
Chelsea are preparing a bid for AC Milan striker Alexandre Pato, according to reports in Italy.
Blues owner Roman Abramovich is rumoured to be readying a bid for the Brazilian forward, with his Italian club prepared to sell, reports Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport.
The west London team is currently light up front, with Spanish forward Fernando Torres and English striker Daniel Sturridge the only natural front men in the team.
Chelsea have been most frequently linked with seemingly a genuine interest in Atletico Madrid forward Radamel Falcao but the sums the Vicente Calderon side are reportedly looking to receive from such a sale may put off Roman Abramovich and convince the Blues owner to look at other possible options.
Having forked out in excess of £80m to bring in a number of youthful talents in the summer, including the likes of Eden Hazard and Oscar who have already made a real impact in the Chelsea first team picture, the Russian billionaire has apparently drawn up a list of talents the West London side will look to bring in to help the club mount a push to secure the Premier League crown and build for an era of dominance he hopes to usher in.
A move for AC Milan striker Alexandre Pato may be a sensible option to consider, even though the Brazilian has suffered a fair bit with injuries over the past 18 months, at 23 years of age he suits Chelsea’s youthful transfer policy.
Silvio Berlusconi is on a cost cutting drive and having sold Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva during the previous transfer window a decent offer could tempt the AC Milan owner into selling the former Internacional man. Indeed the fact that the 76 year old former Italian prime minister could well be set for a lengthy jail sentence, the Serie A side may be even more vulnerable to approaches from interested parties looking to pick up any of the Rossoneri’s top talents.
Pato may be open to a move away from the San Siro given the horrific start to the current campaign and is nearing a return from a thigh injury and is a player Chelsea will look to boost the club’s firepower and act as a more natural fit with the club’s creative element. The skillful forward has netted 51 goals in 114 Serie A appearances.
