Anfield side target Amsterdam duo.
Ajax tell Liverpool to cough up £20million for Christian Eriksen
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has been told he must stump up £20million to land Ajax star Christian Eriksen, according to reports in Holland.
Reds chief Rodgers is desperate to add up to four new faces to his squad in the January window, with a striker and two goal-scoring midfielders topping his priorities.
Liverpool are also interested in Ajax’s Toby Alderweireld, but face competition from Tottenham and Newcastle.
Brendan Rodgers is all to aware of his Liverpool squad shortcomings and is therefore hopeful of a decent level of funding in the January transfer window in order to help his side’s push up the table after a woeful start to the campaign.
The Anfield boss has adopted a youthful transfer policy and as such has targeted two Ajax players who have already achieved a great deal despite their relatively tender years.
Christian Eriksen has been masterful in the Ajax midfield over the past couple of campaigns, helping his side to back to back titles notching up 16 goals and 34 assists in the process. The Danish international won’t come cheap but even a £20m outlay, as outlined by this source, seems a bargain.
A move for 23 year old Toby Alderweireld would set Liverpool back around £8m according to the Daily Mail and the adaptable defender could certainly help to strengthen the Merseyside back-line.
Rodgers may need to sell in order to finance such a big money move and one does wonder whether the Liverpool boss may take the opportunity to offload the likes of Jordan Henderson, Joe Cole and Stewart Downing to help balance the cost of such an investment.
