Old Trafford side prioritize move for Parkhead battler.
Man United ‘prioritise move for Celtic’s Victor Wanyama’
Manchester United have been linked with a move for Celtic powerhouse Victor Wanyama, who is keen to leave the Scottish champions.
The Kenyan international still has three years of the four-year contract he signed in 2011 to run, but has been offered a new deal by Celtic.
Boss Neil Lennon is keen to reward Wanyama for his impressive form with an extended contract, but the midfielder has so far shown no signs of committing his future to the club.
Sir Alex Ferguson is willing to pay £12 million to bring the player to Old Trafford, although Celtic value him at a price closer to £25 million.
United are desperate to add reinforcements to their midfield and Sir Alex knows he will soon have to replace veteran duo Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes.
Celtic boss Neil Lennon may well not want to see Kenyan international Victor Wanyama to leave Parkhead but in all likelihood if Man United make a genuine offer then the Glasgow side may end up fighting a losing battle to keep hold of the determined midfielder.
Celtic paid £900k to bring the Beerschot man to the SPL so the idea of asking for 25 times that figure after less than 18 months is probably a little optimistic.
Sir Alex Ferguson lacks an out and out defensive midfielder and Wanyama may well be the Scot’s number one target for the role and by all accounts the Man United boss has sent scouts to monitor the 21 year old on a few occasions this season, a move away from Celtic may well be a case of when and not if.
