Anfield side target Latics custodian as Pepe Reina replacement.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers wants to snatch Wigan’s giant shot-stopper Ali Al Habsi in a shock £7 million move – as he looks for TWO new keepers, writes The Sunday People.
Rodgers has told his spies to find him a senior No.1 and a young understudy as he plans to shake up that department in the next stage of his Anfield revolution.
Oman international skipper Al Habsi has been a stand-out for Latics since joining them from Bolton – and the Kop talent spotters reckon he is the perfect replacement for Pepe Reina.

In what universe is Wigan keeper Ali Al Habsi a perfect replacement for Pepe Reina?
Clearly the Spaniard has fell out of favour with Brendan Rodgers who has bravely/foolishly opted to keep Reina on the bench even once he returned to full fitness. Yes the 30 year old has perhaps not been up to his own very high standards but the former Villarreal man is still one of the best custodians in the Premier League.
Aussie Brad Jones has been in decent form this term but is still someway behind Reina in terms of goalkeeping ability and Rodgers may want to patch up his differences with Reina and swiftly return him to first choice keeper before the Spanish international looks to leave Anfield for pastures new.
Ali Al Habsi has been a very solid keeper for the past nine months, helping the Latics to an excellent end of season run last term that saved Roberto Martinez’s side from the drop and continuing to impress this season.
However the former Bolton keeper isn’t a patch on Pepe Reina who has served Liverpool well, even during the club’s lean years under Roy Hodgson and Kenny Dalglish and as such isn’t a player Rodgers should entertain the idea of replacing.
