Upton Park boss side linked with curious move to land Stamford Bridge midfielder.
West Ham held on for a point against Manchester City on Saturday night – but their manager has had some bother holding on to his phone.
Sam Allardyce has been living near the Mirror’s Canary Wharf base since joining the Hammers and can often be seen enjoying a Big Scran in one of the financial centre’s café bars of a weekend.
A few weeks ago, Allardyce did just that but left his mobile behind on the table after finishing his meal. A well-wisher picked it up for safe-keeping, but couldn’t resist scrolling through the gaffer’s list of contacts.
Minutes later, Allardyce returned and was reunited with his phone. But alas, not in time to stop the Good Samaritan texting Karren Brady and demanding she put in a bid for Frank Lampard.

Hilarious. If this is true one does wonder what Karen Brady texted in return. Indeed what if the West ham vice-chairman had gone ahead and made an inquiry for the former Hammer man? One would imagine that the England veteran would not be all that keen on a return to Upton Park.
The 34 year old gets an earful every time he takes on his former employers as West Ham supporters have not forgiven the midfielder for leaving them all those years ago.
Lampard has become something of a bit part player at Stamford Bridge and he may well be considering his options having started just four of the club’s ten Premier League matches this season, and only one of the last six.
West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has confirmed his interest in signing another former Hammer though, Man United defender Rio Ferdinand, so it turns out that bit of transfer speculation didn’t stem from his mobile phone being pinched.
