Debuchy does not expect January switch to St James’ Park.
Lille right-back Mathieu Debuchy has admitted he was disappointed not to join Newcastle over the summer but says he does not expect to leave the French club in January.
Toon boss Alan Pardew made the 26-year-old France international his top target at the end of last season but could not agree a fee with the Ligue 1 outfit despite several bids.
Lille were reportedly demanding in excess of £12m for the defender, after Debuchy’s strong showing for Les Bleus at Euro 2012.
The full-back revealed he was desperate to move to St James’ Park, following talks with former Lille teammate and fellow France international Yohan Cabaye, who is now with the Magpies.
Newcastle were expected to return with a bid for Debuchy in January but the Frenchman admits he does not expect to leave the Stade Metropole in the immediate future.
“The President [Michel Seydou] did not want me to go to Newcastle but yes, I was disappointed,” Debuchy told L’Equipe.
“I hope there will be other opportunities but that episode is past now and I’m 200 per cent committed to Lille.”
