Dutchman lined-up for White Hart Lane switch.
Klass-Jan Huntelaar is a January target for Tottenham Hotspur as the Schalke forward could be available for a reduced fee of about £7m during the next transfer window.
Huntelaar has been one of the most dangerous strikers in Europe since he moved to Germany from AC Milan in 2010 but the Dutchman is thought to be keen on a move to the Premier League.
He is out of contract with Schalke at the end of the season and has yet to sign a new one, meaning he would be free in January to sign a pre-contract agreement with a club outside Germany for the 2013-14 season.
Schalke still hope to persuade Huntelaar to stay but, if he decides to leave, selling him in January would be the club’s last chance to recoup any of the £9m they paid for him two years ago.
You know its nearly silly-season when Spurs are linked with Klass-Jan Huntelaar. The North London club seem to be perennially on the verge of signing the Dutch goal-machine but for once there could be some truth in the links…
With just Jermain Defoe and the off-form Emmanuel Adebayor currently on their books, Spurs are in need of striking reinforcements in January and Huntelaar, who can be approached in the new year to sign a pre-contract agreement, guarantees goals for a low fee of just £7m.
Spurs are likely to face competition from Liverpool for Huntelaar, however. The Anfield club have long been linked with the Netherlands international and are in desperate need of a striker to partner the in-form Luis Suarez.
It is understood that Huntelaar earns just £60,000 per week at Schalke so could fit in with Spurs strict wage structure.
