Villa Park and Stadium of Lights sides keen on Old Trafford forward?
Manchester United striker Federico Macheda is actively looking for a new club having finally given up on his dream of making it at Old Trafford.
“Federico at this time is not finding space, and so it is clear that in January he will go away,” said Macheda’s agent Giovanni Bia to tuttomercatoweb.com.
“But I don’t think he’ll be back again in Italy because usually in January clubs are looking for players that are already ready, unless there are teams with a quiet standing which want to do long-term projects with him.”
Aston Villa and Sunderland are likely to be the interested clubs.
Though still only 21 years of age it does seem Federico Macheda’s Man United career is nearing it’s anti-climatic end. The Italian youngster burst onto the scene with THAT winner against Aston Villa in April 2009 but has struggled to force his way into the Old Trafford first team picture and Sir Alex Ferguson would probably not stand in the striker’s way if indeed he did pursue a move away from the club.
Loan spells at Sampdoria and QPR failed to lead to the regular football Macheda needs in order to get some way to fulfilling his potential so a permanent switch is needed to help the Italian Under 21 international re-ignite his footballing career.
Both Sunderland and Aston Villa could perhaps do with Macheda as a striking option and one would imagine Ferguson would not demand a king’s ransom for the Rome born forward.
Macheda’s last Premier League start came in November 2010 and given that Wayne Rooney, Robin Van Persie, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez stand ahead of the Italian in the Man United pecking order it may be safe to say another appearance in Ferguson’s starting eleven could be another two years in the making.
