Old Trafford side given fresh hope in San Siro star chase.
Italian source CalcioMercato report that Inter Milan are ready to accept offers for €20m (£15.9m) rated playmaker Wesley Sneijder with Man United leading the race to sign the Dutch international.
Sir Alex Ferguson has been strongly linked with interest in the 28 year old former Ajax and Real Madrid man who has found himself somewhat surplus to requirements in Andrea Stramaccioni’s first team set-up.
Sneijder and Stramaccioni have reportedly clashed over the Nerazzurri manager’s insistence that the midfielder is still recovering from a groin injury whilst the player himself has stated publicly that he is fully fit and ready for action.
Inter Milan have won their last seven Serie A matches on the trot, culminating in a victory in Turin that ended Juventus’s 49 match unbeaten run. This would appear to suggest that the Italian giants can live without Sneijder and may therefore leave the door open for a Man United bid.
Ferguson may well feel the need to add more creativity to a somewhat rigid midfield and the Scot admitted as such with his unsuccessful attempt to sign Brazilian international Lucas Moura. Therefore a bid from Man United for the long term target could be in the offing.
Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick are not as attack minded as they once were and Darren Fletcher and Anderson have never been known for their goal-scoring and assist making capabilities. Tom Cleverley has impressed but the chance to bring in an established talent like Sneijder may be too good an opportunity to pass up.
