Old Trafford side on trail of impressive Parkhead hero.
Manchester United are stepping up their interest in Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama.
The imposing Kenyan was the Scottish side’s hero in Wednesday night’s epic 2-1 defeat of Barcelona, scoring his side’s first goal and negating the threat of Xavi and Andres Iniesta.
His performance was noted by United with chief European scout Martin Ferguson in attendance at Celtic Park to watch the 21-year-old impress once again.
However, Premier League clubs are likely to offer around £12m in January with United weighing up their move. Manager Sir Alex Ferguson wants another midfielder and Wanyama’s age will also appeal.

One can well see why a number of Europe’s ‘Elite’ are beating a path to Victor Wanyama’s door. The Kenyan has been in mighty impressive form over the past 18 months and his display against Barcelona in mid-week will only have further increased the chances of a big money offer for the 21 year old.
Neil Lennon has a fight on his hands to keep the youngster and may well have to consider offers for Wanyama, especially those which are ten times the fee the Glasgow side paid Beerschot for the defensive midfielder.
Sir Alex Ferguson may well feel he needs a steely presence in his side to help stem the tide of opposition attacks that have led to the Old Trafford side conceding a fair few goals this season.
