Etihad Stadium side ready to ring the changes.
Italian source CalcioMercato are today reporting that Roberto Mancini is looking to make significant changes to his Etihad Stadium squad after a less than convincing first few months of the season.
Though Man City are still unbeaten in Premier League action they still trail local rivals Man United and have performed poorly in the Champions League, all but ending their hopes of qualification for the knock-out stages of the competition for the second successive seasons.
The Italian has earmarked a move for Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi, who has long been on the Man City boss’s radar and recent reports suggest that the Stadio Olimpico side could be open to offers for the midfielder amid speculation that the 30 year old has fallen out with new boss Zdenek Zeman.
This situation will not have been helped by the experienced campaigner’s red card in today’s Rome derby, which he received after punching Lazio midfielder Stefano Mauri.
Man City are also said to be keen on Schalke goal machine Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and this source believes that Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli are set for departures to make room for the Dutch international who can be picked up on a free transfer in the summer.
The Bosnian international has been frustrated at the lack of first team starts he has been handed despite the fact that he is by far the most prolific marksman for Man City this season.
Despite spending £27m to bring Dzeko to the club Roberto Mancini has consistently failed to give the big forward a consistent run in his starting eleven. The 26 year old has been given just three Premier League starts this season but has still scored six goals and may well be keen to move on in order to prevent his stagnation on the Man City bench.
Mario Balotelli returned from a successful summer at the Euro 2012 finals hoping to get a look-in at Man City having spent much of last season on the bench, things have not quite worked out how the 22 year old would’ve hoped.
The former Inter Milan man has seen Argentine pair Carlos Tevez and Sergio Aguero get the nod as he’s played a cameo role and the Italian international’s form has suffered as a result and hasn’t scored in nine Premier League appearances this season and was not named in Mancini’s squad for their encounter with Tottenham.
Perhaps a move back to Serie A would suit all concerned.
