Stamford Bridge side switch attention to Napoli forward.
Chelsea are ready to switch their attention from La Liga to Serie A as they look to bring in an additional striker to boost the Stamford Bridge attack.
The West London side had been strongly linked with Atletico Madrid star Radamel Falcao to Stamford Bridge but the La Liga side are holding firm in their decision to not allow another big name forward to leave the Vicente Calderon as they look to rid themselves of their ‘selling-club’ tag.
This has led to the Blues looking to Napoli forward Edinson Cavani and are willing to fork out £45m for the 25 year old who has been a huge succes in Italy. Chelsea will hope an offer of this magnitude will tempt Stadio San Paolo owner Aurelio De Laurentiis into selling the Uruguyan.
Cavani has been scoring goals at an alarming rate since his move to the San Paolo, netting 66 goals in his first two seasons in Naples and has scored 14 goals in 14 games this term to help his side to mount a genuine title challenge with Napoli currently sitting in third place in Serie A.
The former Palermo forward may well consider a move to Chelsea after seeing strike-partner Ezequiel Lavezzi leave for PSG in the summer.
Chelsea have thus far shown complete faith in Fernando Torres up front and Roberto Di Matteo will have been happy with the Spaniard’s early season form but the Italian hopes to bring in a more prolific marksman to play ahead of his creative attacking midfield trio Oscar, Juan Mata and Eden Hazard.
