Stamford Bridge side target Fiorentina duo.
Chelsea are said to be scouting Fiorentina pair Stevan Jovetic and Adem Ljajic as the Stamford Bridge side continue to scout youthful additions to further strengthen their Blues squad.
Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich forked out over £80m on new signings over the summer and has seen a number of those brought in already make an impact, most notably Oscar and Eden Hazard, and the Chelsea owner is ready finance further signings with a view to building for the future as a number of the club’s old guard look set to be winding down their careers at the West London club.
Chelsea have been scouting Montenegrin international Jovetic for some months now and will face a battle with fellow Premier League side Man City in the race for the 23 year old forward who has become something of a cult hero at the Stadio Artemi Franchi.
Jovetic has moved into a move orthodox striking role under boss Vincenzo Montella and has proven very effective over the past 18 months and Fiorentina currently sit in fourth spot having picked up just two defeats in 12 Serie A fixtures thus far this season, those coming against in-form sides Inter Milan and Napoli.
Chelsea are hoping to boost their attacking options and Roberto Di Matteo sees Jovetic as an able performer who could offer support to Fernando Torres, who the Italian has stuck doggedly with this season, or indeed as a possible replacement should the Spaniard hit another period of poor form.
The Stamford Bridge side have identified Jovetic’s team-mate Adem Ljajic as another target with the 21 year old Serbian coming on leaps and bounds this season and finally beginning to deliver on the obvious potential the young versatile attacking midfielder possesses.
The former Partizan Belgrade starlet was turned down by Man United are a protracted trial period at the Old Trafford club and now into his fourth season at Fiorentina Ljajic is beginning to provide an end product to go with the skillful build up play he is adept at providing.
Moves to bring in further young talent to boost the Chelsea squad may well go hand in hand with the possible departure of Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard, both of whom are in the final year of their current contracts and could turn down the offer of one year extensions.
Florent Malouda is also likely to leave after being unceremoniously dropped to the club’s reserves and certainly now surplus to requirements at the club.
