St James’ Park side keen on Congo international.
Italian source CalcioMercato claim that Newcastle United have their sights firmly set on Anderlecht striker Dieumerci Mbokani as a replacement for Senegal international Demba Ba.
There is constant speculation that the Magpies forward could be snapped up as his £7.5m release clause remains in place, inviting interest from sides keen to pick up a proven Premier League goalscorer for a bargain price.
26 year old former Monaco forward Mbokani is into his second season at Brussels based side Anderlecht and he finished as the club’s top scorer to help his side to a domestic title.
However the Congo international is sure to be interested in a move to the Premier League, though one would imagine a move for Mbokani in the January window would be unlikely give that the player will be away on African Nations Cup duty for up to six weeks.
Fortunately for Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew, Senegal did not qualify so player sales aside will not see Ba or strike-partner Papiss Cisse leave on international duty.
