Old Trafford side keen on Roma youngster.
Man United are readying a move to capture impressive young Roma forward Erik Lamela according to TransferMarketWeb.
The former River Plate attacking midfielder moved to the Stadio Olimpico in August 2011 and last term he was perhaps not as big a success as many would’ve hoped but then his Roma side were going through something of a transition period overseen by Luis Enrique, who has now left the club.
Under new boss Zdenek Zeman the Argentine international has reveled in a more advanced role that has seen Lamela become a real live-wire. The youngster is the joint top scorer in Serie A with eight goals from 11 games and has therefore begun to once again attract the attention of Europe’s ‘Elite’.
Sir Alex Ferguson has clearly been working on adopting a more youthful transfer policy, with Robin Van Persie perhaps being an anomaly of late, and Lamela is now in his sights.
The Man United boss may see Lamela as an ideal link between midfield and attack, though this role may increasingly begin to be one that Wayne Rooney fills.
A move for Lamela perhaps becomes more relevant if Man United look to cash-in on inconsistent attacker Nani a move that could make room for just such an addition but Roma president James Pallotta would not endear himself with the Giallorossi fans if he sought to cash in on the starlet.
