Clough concedes wonderkid could leave Pride Park.
Derby County midfielder Will Hughes’ performances this season have seen him capped by England U-21’s and attracting interest from Premier League giants Manchester City and Arsenal.
Derby boss Nigel Clough remains keen to keep the 17-year-old at Pride Park but has conceded he could be sold for if a the Championship club receives a mega-bid in January.
Clough told the Derby Telegraph: “If anybody wants him, they know it will be serious money.”
Whilst Clough feels that Hughes is ready to play at the next level, the former Burton Albion boss feels that there is a danger that the youngster may get lost in the system, finding himself warming the bench at a larger club.
Clough acknowledged that scouts had been to see Hughes, saying: “We have not had any contact or bids for him from other clubs, although there are plenty of scouts coming to watch him and we don’t think they are coming to watch Gareth Roberts at 34!”
Manchester City and Arsenal are amongst those rumoured to be interested in signing young Hughes but it is obvious that his manager is keen to keep him with Derby for at least another year.
