Chelsea are “almost certain” to sign Fluminense defender Wallace, according to the player’s agent.

The 18-year-old full-back has been strongly linked with the Blues in recent times, with reports suggesting the west London club have owned a 40 per cent stake in the player since midfielder Deco went in the opposite direction two years ago.

It has been claimed this month that Chelsea are now on the verge of completing a £4.4 million move for the highly-rated player, with his agent Fernando Moraes confirming that talks have nearly reached fruition.

“There are very advanced negotiations with Chelsea and the signature is almost certain,” Moraes said, according to Italian radio station Centro Suono Sport.

Chelsea looked set to boost their burgeoning South American ranks with the acquisition of young Fluminense right-back Wallace. The 18-year-old will join compatriots Oscar, Ramires, David Luiz and Lucas Piazon at Stamford Bridge in the new year.

The European Champions spent all summer chasing a new right full-back following the departures of Paulo Ferreira and Jose Bosingwa, eventually signing young Spaniard Cesar Azpilicueta.

The signing of Wallace suggests that the Blues are again looking to the future but, with Azpilicueta barely featuring so far this season, there is a case that the Brazilian teenager could be thrown into first team action at Stamford Bridge sooner rather than later.

That said, Wallace has barely featured for new Brazilian Champions Fluminense, making a name for himself mainly in the reserves, which suggests Chelsea may be taking something of a gamble in shelling out £4.4m on the youngster.
