With much hype surrounding the likes of Wilfried Zaha and Raheem Sterling at present, it’s worth remembering that not all young prodigies live up to their billing.

We take a look at the top ten ‘Wonderkids’ who weren’t.

10. Federico Macheda

Whatever happens to Macheda, the Italian will always be something of a cult hero at Old Trafford, after his flurry of crucial goals, most notably the winner against Aston Villa, helped United to the 2008/2009 Premier League title. Big things were predicted of the striker, who United had prized from Lazio as an infant, but a mixture of injuries and loss of form have seen him barely feature for the Red Devils in the past four seasons. Now 21, Macheda remains at United but is almost certain to leave as soon as Sir Alex Ferguson can find a willing buyer.
