Gunners eyeing Brazilian.
Check-in to Aston Villa v Arsenal
Arsenal are eyeing a summer transfer for VfL Wolfsburg defender Fagner, who has been a sensation since his move to the Bundesliga in July, according to fanatix.
Though yet to win a full international cap for Brazil, Fagner has leapt into many analysts’ thoughts as one of the leading candidates to replace Dani Alves in the long term for the Selecao.
His lack of international caps could make it tricky for Arsenal to acquire a work permit for 23-year-old Fagner but given his form this season he could be granted dispensation as a special talent – as the Gunners received for Ryo Miyaichi.
Fagner has proven himself to be a top class right-back, with tackling, positioning, and interception three of his strong points – perhaps unlike his compatriot at Arsenal Andre Santos.
Fagner can also get forward to great effect and his dribbling is comparable to that of some of the legendary Brazilian full-backs.
With just eighteen months remaining on Bacary Sagna’s contract and the Frenchman indicating his restlessness in interviews this season, there could well be a need for a replacement.
Carl Jenkinson has performed admirably in Sagna’s absence but additional cover is likely to be required, and Fagner could well be that man.
