Bernabeu side keen on Stamford Bridge veteran.
According to TransferMarketWeb Real Madrid are closing in on Chelsea veteran Ashley Cole. Jose Mourinho is seemingly keen on reuniting with the left-back who’s Stamford Bridge career could be heading towards an imminent conclusion.
The 31 year old defender is in the final year of his current contract and as such will apparently only be offered a one year extension, as is standard practice for players over the age of 30 at the West London club. This has led to mounting speculation that the former Arsenal man will leave Chelsea for pastures new.
This source claims that a €10m (£8m) offer could seal the deal to bring Cole to the Bernabeu in January, a deal that Chelsea could prefer to the likely possibility they would lose the England international on a free transfer in the summer.
Mourinho was the man who controversially lured Cole away from Arsenal and is clearly a manager who greatly admires the full-back and could well feel that despite his age the Chelsea man still has a few seasons in the tank.
Chelsea appear to be gearing up for the future and have accordingly brought in a number of young talents and having said goodbye to Didier Drogba last summer could perhaps see both Cole and Frank Lampard, also in the final year of his current deal, leaving the club in the near future.
