Is this really a good enough reason to have axed the Stamford Bridge boss?
ROBERTO DI MATTEO was warned he would be sacked if he axed £50million flop Fernando Torres.
SunSport can reveal that Chelsea chiefs were aware Di Matteo was thinking of dumping owner Roman Abramovich’s pet signing against Juventus on Tuesday.
They advised the manager not to but the Italian ignored the warning — even though he knew it would cost him his job.

If this really is the reason why Roberto Di Matteo was axed then the Italian deserves a great deal of credit for sticking to his principals. When an owner dictates which players should or should not play then it’s a slippery slope that any self respecting manager would look to extricate himself from.
Fernando Torres has stated every Premier League games this season and has hardly been prolific so on the face of it the move to leave the Spaniard on the bench was a wise one. The fact that Juventus ran out 3-0 winners is something of a moot point as there is of course no guarantee whatsoever that the former Liverpool man was likely to net.
The 28 year old striker was thrown on as a sub but by that point it would appear that the damage was already done and Di Matteo will have known his future as Blues boss was hanging in the balance.
Rafa Benitez may well have to follow Roman Abramovich’s advice if he is going to make it to next summer without having lost his job as interim boss.
