Stamford Bridge said to be considering a move to sign Anfield midfielder.
Chelsea have of course installed former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez as their interim manager but that’s no excuse for a seemingly baseless link with a move to sign Anfield skipper Steven Gerrard, however Sporting Preview make just such a claim.
The West London side have been linked with a couple of unsuccessful attempts at luring the 32 year old midfielder to Stamford Bridge but Gerrard has steadfastly chosen to remain at the Merseyside club he has now represented for 15 seasons.
Though Benitez did get the most out of the Liverpool man during his six years in charge at the club it seems highly unlikely the Spaniard would even attempt such a signing.
Of course Chelsea have picked up a few players from Liverpool over the years, most recently Fernando Torres and Raul Meireles making that switch, the fact that Gerrard didn’t make the move earlier in his career means that any move to do so now almost unthinkable.
Gerrard has racked up over 600 appearances for Liverpool since his debut in November 1998 and whilst the Whiston born midfielder would probably have liked to have picked up a Premier League crown in his career a move to Chelsea to pursue such a dream just isn’t going to happen.
