Anfield side keen on Argentine.
Liverpool are among a throng of clubs said to be interested in Lazio attacker Mauro Zarate according to TransferMarketWeb.
The Anfield side have apparently joined Stoke City in the race to sign the Argentine who could be allowed to leave the Stadio Olimpico side having become surplus to requirements.
The 25 year old is perhaps over-hyped, having been linked with a myriad of top sides in recent seasons, especially given the forward is still yet to collect a single senior Argentine national team cap. However he may provide Liverpool with a much needed attacking alternative.
Currently Uruguayan Luis Suarez is the club’s only real effective goal-scoring option and Brendan Rodgers must surely be desperate to remedy that situation in January.
Zarate spent half a season on loan at Birmingham City before moving to Lazio in the summer of 2008 and has netted 25 goals in 103 appearances for the Serie A side though his first team chances of late have been few and far between and his only goal of the current season came in a Europa League qualifier as the Miroslav Klose continues to be the club’s first choice striker.
