Old Trafford side line up move to land long term Goodison Park target.
MANCHESTER UNITED believe they can land Everton defender Leighton Baines in January.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson reckons Baines will head to Old Trafford for as little as £8m plus a player thrown in. Everton manager David Moyes would ideally like to take Patrice Evra to Goodison as part of the deal. Without Evra, the fee would rise to £11m.

Not sure this is a rumour that is likely to stand up to scrutiny.
In today’s transfer market Everton full-back is probably worth double the £8m this source believes David Moyes’s side would accept for the England international and there is little chance that Patrice Evra would follow the raft of Man United players who have made the move to Goodison Park and if he were to leave Man United it would probably be to move back to his native France where there would be no shortage of prospective suitors.
There is no denying that Sir Alex Ferguson is interested in Leighton Baines but Everton are more than able to push to bring in appropriate sums for players they realise they may have to offload. The former Wigan Athletic man may well feel he has gone as far as he can at the Toffees and may well be keen on a move to a side that can offer Champions League football and a genuine title challenge but chairman Bill Kenwright will not sell for such a meagre sum.
Also having sold Jack Rodwell in the summer and will the likes of Marouane Fellaini strongly linked with an Everton exit, it may be that other members of David Moyes’s squad will be exit bound ahead of Baines, who is perhaps the club’s most prized asset.
The 27 year old is defensive sound but also offers a great deal going forward, is a set piece specialist and a regular supplier of goals and assists, hence Ferguson being very interested in the left-back.
