Toffees keen on landing Irish forward.
Everton are ready to challenge Aston Villa to sign LA Galaxy striker Robbie Keane on loan in January, fanatix has learnt.
The Toffees had hoped to land Keane’s teammate Landon Donovan on loan for the third time but the US international says he is jaded and in need of a rest.
The Irish international joined Villa for two months last season and was a big hit at Villa Park, scoring three Premier League goals in six games for Alex McLeish’s struggling side.
Having experienced the benefit in bringing in Landon Donovan on two loan spells it would appear that David Moyes is keen to pull off a similar move to bring in forward Robbie Keane. The former Tottenham man is clearly more than able to bang in the goals in the English Premier League and could be a very useful short term addition for both the Toffees and Aston Villa.
One would imagine any tangible interest shown by Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert would be a death knell to out of favour striker Darren Bent, who has been left out of the entire squad for the past two fixtures.
Everton have a number of attacking options who have been in relatively good form of late with the likes of Nikica Jelavic and Steven Naismith scoring regularly. However the addition of Keane to beef up numbers would still be a sensible idea to consider.
The 32 year old is having a great MLS season, netting 21 goals in 33 fixtures, and may well be allowed to move to Europe for a couple of months following the MLS Cup Final that sees Keane’e LA Galaxy take on the Houston Dynamo this weekend.
