Emirates Stadium side line up move for Juventus forward.
Arsenal are leading the chase to sign Juventus striker Alessandro Matri, according to sources in Italy.
Matri, 28, played a big part in Juventus’ title success last season but he has found first-team football harder to come by this term, having managed just two Serie A starts.
Despite summer signing Olivier Giroud finding his form, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is still thought to be on the lookout for a new forward, and he could test Juve’s resolve with a £7million bid for Matri in January.
Alessandro Matri has become somewhat surplus to requirements at Juventus this term, which is particularly harsh given the Italian international finished last term as the club’s top Serie A scorer. However Arsenal could well offer the experienced 28 year old a new challenge that he may well consider accepting.
Matri moved to Juventus in January 2011 after three and a half years at Cagliari and the former AC Milan forward’s form over the past 18 months has led to five national team caps but his sustained spell outside of the first team picture may well lead the Lombardy born marksman considering his options.
Given that Gunners striker Nicklas Bendtner is already at Juventus on a loan deal there may be some weight to a potential tie-in that would see the Danish international remain at the Italian club as part of any move that would see Matri move to North London.
Olivier Giroud is currently being used exclusively as Arsene Wenger’s sole striker, with the Frenchman using the likes of Lukas Podolski, Gervinho and Theo Walcott only in wide attacking roles, hence the need to reinforce the Emirates Stadium squad in January.
