St James’ Park and DW Stadium sides keen on PSV Eindhoven winger.
Newcastle and Wigan are hot on the trail of PSV Eindhoven winger Jeremain Lens.
The Dutch international is keen to play in one of Europe’s elite leagues, with his preferred destination the Premier League.
Southampton failed in a bid sign Lens last summer, with PSV demanding £10million-plus, but now Newcastle and Wigan are lining up bids and could make a move in January.
The 24-year-old plans to leave at the end of the season but could be tempted to leave in January should Newcastle and Wigan follow up their interest.
He told Elf Voetbal Magazine: “At the end of this season, I will be 25 and then a transfer must come. I would like to leave PSV with the title but if that does not happen it is still no reason to stay.”
Jeremain Lens is being fairly honest about the situation to be fair to the Dutch international any top talent plying his trade in the Eredivisie does eventually seek a move to a ‘bigger’ league and one would imagine that Newcastle United would be more of a pull than a potential move perennial strugglers Wigan Athletic.
The former AZ man is now into his third season at PSV and has been a big success at the club who currently top the table under new boss Dick Advocaat.
Alan Pardew may feel that the purchase of Lens would add more creativity to his attack and Newcastle United have certainly struggled to retain the form that helped them to an unexpected fifth place finish last term.
However perhaps a move to the Latics would offer the speedy attacker a better chance at regular first team football as a move to St James’ Park would see Lens have to challenge the likes of Hatem Ben Arfa and Jonas Gutierrez for a first team berth.
