City look set to beat Chelsea to signing of £8m Barcelona starlet Deulofeu
Manchester City has emerged as the front-runners to sign wonderkid Gerard Deulofeu from Barcelona.
City have overtaken Chelsea in the race to capture the 18-year-old, who has an £8.1million buy-out clause.
Since the sacking of Roberto Di Matteo, Chelsea have fallen behind and City are understood to be prepared to double his wages.

As well as Chelsea’s recent slump being a potential factor in Man City leading the West London club in the race for promising teenager Gerard Deulofeu one has to also take into account that the Etihad Stadium side have recently appointed Txiki Begiristain as their new sporting director having fulfilled a similar role with great success at the Nou Camp.
Deulofeu is on the fringes of Tito Vilanova’s first team squad and is already capped at Spanish Under 21 international level and would surely be a player that the Catalan side would look to keep hold of but clearly if the player has a release clause that is met by a prospective suitor then the matter may well be out of their hands.
A lot could depend on whether the youngster feels he can make the grade at Man City earlier than he might do at Barcelona. Deulofeu is the top scorer in Spain’s second tier, having registered eight goals in 12 games for Barcelona B and is clearly a player with a very bright future.
