Emirates Stadium side take interest in Liberty Stadium marksman.
Arsenal are reportedly considering a move for Swansea City attacker Michu after witnessing first hand the ability the Spaniard possesses. The 26 year old scored twice at the Emirates Stadium in the Welsh side’s 2-0 defeat of the North London club and this has added to the Gunners growing interest in the former Rayo Vallecano man.
Arsene Wenger had been tentatively linked with interest in Michu as he put in an excellent series of performances in La Liga last term and helped keep his Madrid based side from being relegated prior to seeking a move to the Premier League.
Michael Laudrup won the race to capture Michu within the first month of his taking charge of the Liberty Stadium side and clearly the Dane was more than aware of the ability the former Celta Vigo man possessed, having managed both Getafe and Real Mallorca in La Liga prior to moving to South Wales.
Arsenal boss Wenger has outlined his plan to bring in striking reinforcements to aid his ailing Emirates Stadium squad to move back up the Premier League table after the club’s worst ever start to a Premier League season and the Frenchman is keen on luring Michu to the capital and is ready to offer as much as £12m to entice Swansea City into selling their top scorer.
Though Swansea City will not be looking to sell Michu an offer of more than ten times the £1.6m they spent on the flair player in the summer may be hard to turn down, especially if the player is tempted by a move to Arsenal.
Michu can play in a number of positions across both the midfield and attack but has reveled in a support striker role and is a player Wenger may feel could operate behind Olivier Giroud offering a much needed goal threat to aid the the club’s push for at the very least a top four finish.
The Spaniard may feel that a high-profile move could aid a push for a senior Spanish national team call-up and the fact that Michu is available for Champions League action could also be a major reason behind Arsenal’s very real interest.
The fact that Michu is good friends with Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla could also help to cement any potential transfer, both players are former Oviedo players and have joined forces in recent weeks to help raise funds to help the financially stricken Asturias based side.
Michu has racked up a hugely impressive ten goals in 15 Premier League appearances, making him the joint top scorer in the English top tier.
