Bernabeu boss on the ropes.
Jose Mourinho will leave Real Madrid at the end of the season according to a report in Spanish newspaper Marca.
The Portuguese boss could succeed Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford after the Manchester United manager backed him for the role.
Mourinho has come under fire from supporters this season following Madrid’s slow start to the domestic season and even came out early before his side faced Atletico Madrid to give them the chance to jeer him.

Jose Mourinho has had something of a love/hate relationship with the Bernabeu faithful and the animosity he has been receiving after a shaky start to the La Liga season culminated in the Portuguese boss’s promise to walk out in front of the club’s supporters some 40 minutes before the kick-off of their match with Atletico Madrid match so that they could either lavish him with praise or boos.
It was an odd sight and if the idea was to somehow alleviate the pressure from his team ahead of the big Madrid derby then Mourinho should be applauded. However it could also have been seen as a rather arrogant gesture from a man who is clearly no wallflower.
If the Marca is correct, and that’s one hell of a big IF, then Jose Mourinho could well be lined up to replace Sir Alex Ferguson as Old Trafford boss.
The Scot spoke on this very subject last week, stating.
‘He can manage anywhere, absolutely. I’m not going to put any forecasts on what is going to happen at this club. I won’t last forever, but Jose can manage anywhere, there is no question about that.’
Real Madrid sit 11 points behind arch rivals Barcelona and it looks a big ask for Mourinho to make up that gap and therefore anything less than a Champions League triumph could see the former Chelsea man look to leave the La Liga giants.
