Anfield side keen on Upton Park midfielder.
West Ham are fighting to keep explosive midfielder Mohamed Diame, who has an escape clause in his contract and could leave the club in January.
Talks are expected this week with the players’ agent but the free transfer signing from Wigan appears in no rush to sign a new deal.
In order to lure him to West Ham in the summer, the club were forced to agree a ‘trigger clause’ in his contract. The size of the clause is a closely-guarded secret at Upton Park, but rival clubs are circling and prepared to pay around £6million.
The player, who was compared by Jamie Redknapp as a cross between Yaya Toure and Patrick Vieira, has been drawing attention from Liverpool and Everton.

West Ham may well regret agreeing a deal to sign a player on a free transfer which included the a £6m release clause as it looks entirely possible that the East London side will see lightning strike twice as a host of sides, led by Liverpool, take an interest in midfielder Mohamed Diame.
The East London side saw Demba Ba join Newcastle United in similar circumstances and the form displayed by the former Wigan man could well see Liverpool look to land the battling French born Senegal international.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers could well feel his midfield lacks some bite, especially with Lucas Leiva having been out for such a lengthy period and a move to sign Diame would be a very cost effective one to consider and that may well be in the best interests of the club’s American owners who seem reticent to fork out the kind of sums they handed during Kenny Dalglish’s managerial reign.
Diame had three solid seasons at the DW Stadium prior to his move to West Ham and the 25 year old ran Chelsea ragged after coming on as a half-time sub against the West London side on the weekend.
