Stamford Bridge target moving out of Blues reach.
According to Italian source TuttoMercato Napoli have increased the release clause placed on star striker Edinson Cavani to a massive €95m (£77m) and that may be too steep a price, even for Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, for prospective suitors to stump up.
Edinson Cavani has long been a Chelsea target, indeed their interest probably dates back to the encounter between the two teams in the Champions League last term when the former Palermo man netted for Napoli back in February.
The 26 year old has been a monumental success since his move to the club back in the summer of 2010, managing 83 goals in 112 matches.
Whilst Chelsea could certainly do with alternative attacking options, preferably ones who are more effective that misfiring £50m Spaniard Fernando Torres, Abramovich may well baulk at the asking price now on Cavani’s head.
Torres has failed to score in his last nine Premier League fixtures and under Rafa Benitez Chelsea have scored just one goal in three matches and as a result have fallen some ten points off Man United at the top of the table.
Therefore there is every chance that the West London club will invest in new striking options but may opt to pass on the Napoli goal machine.
