Anfield side ready to spend to improve squad next month.
The Daily Mail states this morning that Brendan Rodgers is ready to make significant moves in the January transfer window as he looks to build on a decent run of form and help push the Anfield side back towards the coveted top four.
Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea)
Chief among his targets next month is the 23 year old Blues attacker with this source stating that Liverpool are close to finalising a £12m deal to sign the England international.
Rodgers urgently needs to bring in some goal-scoring support to help out overworked Uruguayan Luis Suarez, who’s goals have essentially prevented Liverpool from hovering around the relegation zone. The former Man City man has made just one Premier League start this season and seems no nearer to a foot-hold in the first team under Rafa Benitez than he had during Roberto Di Matteo’s short reign.
£12m is a good price to pay for a player with real potential and with a point to prove. The fact that Sturridge can also play in a wide attacking role makes him an even more intelligent acquisition and as long as Rodgers can persuade the Chelsea man that his ambitions can be fulfilled at Liverpool there appears to be a strong possibility that such a deal could be on the cards.
