Verratti Arsenal

Arsenal and Chelsea could be forced to ramp up their interest in Paris St. Germain’s Marco Verratti after Juventus emerged as serious contenders to sign him.

Verratti has excelled while at PSG and his performances have been noted by the two Premier League sides.

The pair will have to move quickly, though, if they want to secure the midfielder as Juventus are very keen.

Carlo Ancelotti is under increasing pressure at PSG and could be axed – and the Parisian club could also lose one of their brightest prospects as Juve close in.

Marco Verratti, who has been compared to veteran Italian Andrea Pirlo, is very much a ‘Wenger-style’ player, very comfortable on the ball, intelligent distributor and a youthful promise that could see the Italian become a household name in the coming seasons.

The 20 year old Italian international has impressed at PSG this term as one of many new additions brought in by Carlo Ancelotti over the summer but if the former Stamford Bridge is axed then the former Pescara man may well be tempted by a move to the Premier League.

PSG has lost three of their last five Ligue 1 matches and have fallen to third spot in the table. Ancelotti would’ve been expected to secure the club’s first domestic title in almost twenty years as a result of the huge sums invested by the side’s Qatari owners.

Anything less than that and Ancelotti could be axed.

Arsene Wenger does have a wealth of creative midfield talents but has arguably not seen these players ‘step-up’ and make an impact this season.

Mikel Arteta has been shackled in a new holding role to compensate for the lack of an out and out defensive midfield presence. Jack Wilshere is feeling his way back from a long time out. Aaron Ramsey too often make the wrong decisions though clearly the talent is there.

Santi Cazorla has impressed since joining Arsenal but in recent weeks has been ineffective. Wenger will be pleased to Tomas Rosicky make a comeback from injury on Tuesday night in Athens, where the Czech Republic veteran was probably the Gunners best player.

Verratti could slot in nicely into the Arsenal midfield but it may prove tricky to tempt the Italian starlet away from PSG just yet.
