Emirates Stadium side line-up young pretender to beef up full-back options.
Arsenal will look to sign Croatian international right-back Sime Vrsaljko according to Italian source TuttoMercato as Arsene Wenger looks set to lose another first team regular.
The Gunners boss is apparently resigned to losing French international Bacary Sagna according to the Daily Mirror and as such Wenger has been scouting Dinamo Zagreb youngster Vrsaljko as a possible replacement for the former Auxerre defender.
20 year old Vrsaljko has become a regular in the Dinamo Zagreb first team over the past 18 months and now has a good level of Champions League experience having played in the showpiece tournament regularly over the past two seasons.
The Croat can also play at left-back and therefore help to cover that area of the Arsenal defence. Wenger can call upon Carl Jenkinson on the right if indeed Sagna is offloaded but clearly the addition of more strength in depth in this area is something the French boss has been considering for some time.
An injury crisis on the defensive flanks last term led to the likes of Frances Coquelin and Johan Djourou having to fill in as makeshift options, with varying degrees of success.
Sagna will reportedly look to leave the North London club as a result of Arsenal’s policy of offering just one year rolling contracts to players over the age of 30. The French international is 29 years of age and has 18 months to run on his current deal and as such may well be planning ahead.
The Arsenal man has at times been considered one of the best in the business in his position but two broken legs suffered in the space of one season led to Jenkinson more than proving himself as a viable long term replacement for Sagna, therefore leaving Wenger ready to consider life without the experienced defender.
