Anfield and White Hart Lane sides target Lyon striker.
Italian source CalcioMercato claim that both Liverpool and Tottenham are eyeing up Lyon forward Bafetimbi Gomis.
The 27 year old French international may be sacrificed by the Ligue 1 side due to the much publicized financial problems Lyon are struggling with. Over the summer the Stade Gerland side cashed in on Hugo Lloris, Aly Cissokho and Kim Källström by selling the trio to Tottenham, Valencia and Spartak Moscow respectively but apparently that hasn’t resolved the problem.
The former Saint-Etienne forward netted 25 goals in all competitions last term and has already scored 13 this season, including a hat-trick away at Marseille, so clearly the powerful striker is a player in-form. Gomis may well be interested in a Premier League switch regardless of the fact that Lyon top the table and owner Jean-Michel Aulas will hope that a bidding war will help the French club get as good a price as possible for the marksman.
Liverpool’s need for a new attacking option is far greater than Tottenham’s, indeed Andre Villas-Boas has barely used summer signing Emmanuel Adebayor, such has been the form of England man Jermain Defoe.
Brendan Rodgers on the other hand has had to rely almost exclusively on Luis Suarez for end product this term and as such the Anfield manager would dearly love to bring in a proven forward like Gomis to boost numbers in January.
