Old Trafford side target Upton Park battler.
Man United are reportedly the latest side to take an interest in West Ham midfielder Mohamed Diame. Sir Alex Ferguson is scouting the Senegal international after learning of the former Wigan Athletic man’s cut-price release clause.
The 26 year old can be picked up for as little as £5m and Hammers boss Sam Allardyce has ever reason to fear that interested parties will be queuing up to make just such an offer when the transfer window re-opens next month.
The tough tackling midfielder has been in fine form thus far this season and his performance after coming on as a sub against Chelsea will have only served to show just what the French born battler is capable of.
One would have thought that West Ham would have learned from past experience the danger of offering a deal with an in-built release clause of this nature having seen Demba Ba make his Upton Park exit to join Newcastle United following the East London club’s relegation from the top tier a couple of years ago.
Man United boss Ferguson feels his side could do with toughening up and believes his side have something of a soft-centre that has been exposed on a number of occasions this season, which has led to the opposition advances going unchecked which has contributed to the club’s woeful defensive record this season.
The Old Trafford side sit top of the table but have the conceded the second most goals of the sides sitting in the top ten and though Ferguson’s side have an attack that has consistently managed to net more than they have shipped in the Scot is aware that this situation can not be allowed to continue.
Diame would almost certainly be interested in a move to Man United and any push to sign the midfielder will be aided by the fact that the player’s national team failed to qualify for the African Nations Cup finals that are to take place in January and February of next season.
